ok i have a asus a7n8xDLX mb with 2 sticks of samsung original 256mb ddr pc2700 cl2.5 in slots = 512mb, i want to upgrade to 1 GIG so my questions are i know i can put 2 sticks of 512mb pc3200 in slots but will they be ok running at 333 and not 400 as my cpu only runs at 166mhz and not 200mhz its a xp2700+ cpu, but im looking at a xp3200 barton that runs at 200mhz to put in the future.

i have also been told to stay away from high density ram is this correct and what does ECC mean ?

thx guys

PC3200 will be fine running at PC2700, so thats fine :)

High density RAM is odd RAM found very cheaply on online auction sites, and is best avoided. ECC stands for Error Correction Code, its used in RAM designed for servers and won't work in your board.

thx for reply that answered all my questions, just one more thing could i run the ram at 200mhz and my cpu at 166mhz or not, just until i get a barton 3200. thx

You want to run your RAM at the same speed as your CPU, that gives the best performance on Socket A systems.

thankyou i just wanted the confirmation, so when i get a barton that runs at 200mhz i will be able to use pc3200 to its full benefit both at 200mhz correct. thx
