Hey, im looking for a few answers please since im a team red noob and this is my first non geforce card.

1. Ok so i have installed the catalyst drivers all up to date etc, but i have played some planetside 2 and starcraft 2, both times my computer has locked up 5-10 minutes in. Had to do a hard reset. Im running a fresh install of windows 7.

2. Is there any other add-ons worth downloading ? like afterburner for nvidia?

3. In the catalyst centre there is a high proformance mode. Which im guessing is automatic? is it worth having this on? im worried this could be the cause of my problems in question 1.

4. Since iv installed this, my PC is just running dreadfully slow.

Just hope i dont have as dodgy card :(

The card i have is the gigabyte 7850 OC edition. I bought from here.

Thanks.

Did you clear out all the NVidia drivers before installing the new card? If is often best to go a step further than this and do a fresh install.

Yes bud. I have downgraded from win 8 to 7 just to make sure it wasnt a driver error too. So defo no nvidia things around there.

Really? i rolled back to the first driver from the CD and it did same. I will give 12.8 a pop.

Could it be my monitor causing this? its a old vga monitor. Waiting on my cables to come to connect it to imac. ? Don't want to be messing around with everything if the monitor could be causing this haha.

Try the latest 12.11 beta. You can get it on the AMD site. Where it offers the 12.10 driver scroll down and you will see beta drivers. Most people on the 7xxx series (including myself) use these with great results.

I have heard of issues with VGA on most modern cards at the moment, but I can't remember exactly what they were (flickering I think?)

Downloading this now. Thanks a lot.

I feel abit more at ease with the vga known issue.

Update.

My gfx is looking better, and i am now using the imac's 27inch monitor with the 22inch vga as secondary.

I am not getting lock ups still around the 5-10 minute mark. Im playing starcraft 2 in windowed mode just to make sure that it isnt the huge resolution doing it. But its still locking up.

Picture of the lock up. The camera isnt very good but theres verticle lines all in there:

Heres my CCC settings.

I have not changed anything, although when i open a game i notice the power going to -20%. What does this mean? hope it dosnt mean its not getting enough power by 20%???

Thanks..

Yeah its just when i go on a game since the new install of the card.

It stays on like usual until i run agame. Im just trying the 7850 OC seeing if it might be under powered. Thats that -20 ? is that 'usual'

my first 7870 locked up at completely random times during gaming. the card was faulty, and it sounds like yours is too.

can you test it in another computer?

-20% power sounds odd. Try reseating the card. Check the PCIe power connector is connected to the card.

Have you tried moving the power slider up a little? I have mine at 50% but I have a high OC. If that doesn't do it it could be RMA time.

That's cemented it for me will return and get a higher model for £40 more. Wen put of this version now I think.

Yes bud. Iv put it to 0, 5 and 10%. All the same mate.

Use gpu-z to monitor max and average v-core and temps, and let us know wha tteh card is doing.

second stage try downclocking to 900core 1200 memory to see if its stable.

what power supply you using and how is it connected?

edit for testing just use 1 monitor for now

Try reseating the card. I wouldn't fear getting a direct replacement for it. I use the 7850 OC and it is perfect.

Cheers mate.

Its been taken out back in, different slots all the same.

Just waiting on CS now :)

Thanks guys for your support.

That's a shame. Don't let it put you off the card. I have owned ATI cards since the original 7 series came out and various cards since then and now have the 7850 OC 2GB. Not a single card had problems. Keep us updated.
