Few questions

Hi their, new to the forum so if this topic is against any rules or ettiquete (sp) please let me know.

First off, iv got a x2 athlon 4200 dual core cpu. Looking to overclock it but according to Everest, my cores run at different temps all the time. Core 1 runs at about 35c while core 2 runs at about 43c when idle.
Is it normal for one to idle at higher temps than the other constantly?

Question 2, what cooling aids could i buy to bring these temps down fairly cheaply.

Iv had a quick search for these questions so im hoping this topic is acceptable.

And for a really newbie question, how do i decide which size of fan to go for?

Just ordered a asaka ultra quiet 120mm, thermaltake big typhoon and some artic silver 5

On the subject of the 2 cores, is it normal for 1 core to run at a higher temp than the other one when both are idle?

Edit: 8 quid postage is a bit pricey :eek:

Yeh iv looked at it over the past few days and at any one point, core 2 has been atleast 5c higher than core 1.

Okay so i bought the Big typhoon and fitted it today.
Iv noticed a change in temps, but not as much as i expected.
My cpu is still idleing about 32c(core1) and 40c(core2). I applied the artic silver 5 aswell.

Im just wondering why i cant get the temps down to what iv been reading from other people. Iv got 2 case fans (140mm and 120mm) and neat cables.

The only thing i cant think of is that my case is sitting pretty near the wall (2-3cm away), on the side that the heatsink intakes air, and im wondering if this will make a difference to air intake.

Iv not even overclocked the cpu much (4200 x2 at 2.5ghz with 1.35V).

Is it possible to increase the rpm of the big typhoon to make it more effective - i realise this will increase noise but its not a big factor for me at the moment.
Anyone got any ideas?

Okay great thanks a lot for your continues help caveman, much appreciated.

I think ill put up with the temps as it is, just hope the cpu lasts more than 6 months

Another question, slightly off topic again, but in cpu-z my memory frequency is 180mhz at 2.5-3-3-9. Im just wondering which setting ups the memory frequency as iv adjusted most and it hasn't altered the frequency :confused:
