I installed a second gtx 275 into my rig today, both cards are identical model xfx 640mhz core clocked cards..

Afterburner monitoring.

Is it common to have such a difference in gpu temps between 2 cards, running on an asus p6t dlx v2 in a Lian Li A70F full tower case, i7 920 at 4ghz. And i notice that at idle, 1 card downclocks the core/mem/shader, while the other stays at full speed, forgive my noobness, my last experience of sli was quite a while ago, (8800gts 640's) even then it was only a few days use.

Its normal for the top card to be hotter then the bottom in SLI/Crossfire and my afterburner has the same bug about power play. load 2 copys of GPU-z and you should see both card down clock

Ahh, so its a bug in afterburner, loaded up two instances of the latest version of gpuz.

Both cards downclocking, thanks also about the temp qwery, slot spacing is pretty good between the 2 cards, but i did have to move my xonar dx souncard up to the pcie x4 slot above the top card. Cheers Al.

Did you definately click the bit at the bottom so each gpu-z is monitoring a different core, it should list two. Because the temps are almost identical and it won't continue to update while the other one is selected , you need to click that lower box on both for it to update when the window doesn't have focus, so only one of those is "live" numbers and the differences are the type you'd expect from the same core.

I'd expect one to be at least a few C higher at idle and a bigger gap at load.

I know several drivers for AMD had problems clocking down the second core, for AMD i had to make profiles and edit them to make sure both clocks changed at idle and both cores clocked up when required aswell and I'd switch between the profiles for gaming.

My top 480 idles around 7.c hotter than the bottom one, even when i place fans near the air intakes, run occt for 10 min (both cards at 90% ish),they should reach the same temps,
when playing games etc the seem to run at the same temps.

I get at least a 10c difference between the cards at idle. Thanks for the GPU-Z tip, didn't know that.

pretty normal mate i get about 10c diff on the top card, there are so many things to take into account for temp, gpu load, air flow, abi temp pcie spacing et....0-10c diff is classed as normal.

Yep, gpuz wasnt setup properly, things are going well sli wise, a nice cheap upgrade, i mainly play BFBC2, with a single gtx 275 it was struggling at 1920x1200, low 30fps in places, never dips below 50's now, though my rig is running a bit warmer now. (i7 920 @ 4ghz), my single card used to run at 76c in gaming on auto fan speed (50%), i run both now at 75% fan speed manually when gaming, 76c and 69c
