Heyy seriously thinking about watercooling so i have a few questions :p

  • If i bought the XSPC Rasa 750 RS360 WaterCooling Kit would i be able to add a extra block, or would the pump not like it?
  • I have a HIS5830 MW2 and was wondering if there are any full waterblocks for it?

thanks!
Freddie

Your 5830 is a non reference so you may struggle to find a full cover block for it. The reference 5830 is the same board as the reference 5870 as the 5830 are essentially downclocked/failed 5870s.

You may wish to go GPU only water-cooling and fit something like the Enzotech ram and vrm to the other components and then source a reference graphics card next time you buy.

Thanks Tealc is there any "easy" way to tell if a card is non refrence, ie certain brands

Typically AMD/Nvidia will release a reference card to the card manufacturers. Generally, but not all the time, they feature the long cooler assembly with the blower fan on the right hand side. This type of cooler is effective but very inneficient.

Third party cards, like yours, often re-arrange the components around the GPU core to feature better VRM circuitry and things but also to fit the differing cooling solution.

I was unable to find a picture of your card's PCB but I did see one where the power connectors were on the end rather than the side.

If your card is like this then I would say you have 0% chance that the full cover plate for the 5830/5870 will fit as you have a bank of capacitors next to the VRM and the PCB seems somewhat shorter.

I still say go with a GPU block. You may find that the installed heatsinks on your VRM/RAM are good enough provided you have some airflow in your case. It may not be as pretty as a full cover solution but then the 5830 is not the best card out there and seems a shame to drop £70+ on a card that retails at £90.
