hi all

Just installed windows on my new 2500k PC :D

but a lot of things seem to be broken! :(

I can't install the Hyper-v tools at all :/ dont get an error just simply does not complete and says 'some updates werent installed blah blah' couple of times i have got the error message that says something like 'this package is not valid'

Trying to install office 2010 I originally got '"Error 1310. Error writing to file"' message which i have managed to fix using the steps outlined here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296175 However now whenever I try to install it, it says it can't locate one of the .cab files (first it said word, then restarted the installation and now says publisher) and if i point it to the right directory it still cant find it :/

Lastly, a lot of windows updates failed on the first second attempt and tended to require a restart before they would even install at all :(

any ideas guys? really confusing me  :(

cheers

ali

if ur running an overclock try going to stock settings and trying the updates again ive had issue with overclocks and windows update

Remove overclock, if any

Memtest

HDTune

If above all checks out

Acquire a new installation disk (ISOs are available online)

Report back ;)

nope running at stock.

starting to think this could be hardware related :(

have reinstalled a clean install on my old computer and everything works fine... :/

also seems like a load of my ISO's are now reporting corrupted according to winrar when i try to extract them! :(

i will just say, this is the second install of windows I have had on this machine. The original install also seemed to be mucked up, a lot of programs wouldnt work and would crash, If i tried to download anything in firefox it would crash, i couldnt open IE etc :/ all those problems seem to have gone with the reinstall but do you reckon a new ISO would work? Thing is I have exactly the same ISO installed on my old computer and it works fine...

Running Memtest in a sec... HD tune reported no errors and the health status says ok, though the drive is apparenly at 128C?! I am assuming this is an error seeing as i can touch it would my fingers vaporising... :p

bang on, have ten points

Im guessing its RMA time? :(

Oi, those are my 10 points :p

Make sure the RAM is set correctly (timings/voltage) and test each stick on it's own. Sometimes etailers/manufacturers will just swap out one faulty stick in a kit

i do apologise... 5 points each :P

well its currenlt running at the right timings, and its actually running at 1330 instead of 1600 so its running under what it should do.

What do you mean by that last point? I only need to send back one stick?

I've seen memory fail running under spec as well as over

Contact the seller and see what the terms are. I'd check each stick on it's own but that's me :p

well i bought it from here so i will leave a webnote :) yep i will test each stick individually to find the faulty stick, all the errors that have come up (there are 13 of them, well there would be wouldnt there :( ) and theyre all located at 17xx.x MB so i assume that means the errors are all on one stick?

it's worth finding out because then you might be able to keep one stick in the machine while the rma goes through although ocuk were quite quick when my ram failed

yep I am running it now with just one stick (the second stick because that seems the logical choice as the errors were in 17XX.XMB so will see :)

All good so far....

try increasing the voltage to your ram, I know that my gigabyte board needs 0.25 more on the ram than is stated in the bios as for some reason it undervolts
