Hey, I'm contemplating getting the Xbox 360 as a replacement for a pc gaming rig(although I'll stick with cod2 on pc until no-one plays it :P).

Questions:

I have a 19" CRT monitor with the blue connector, will the xbox output in HD to that?

Is call of duty2 better or worse on XB than the PC?

GR:AW or Oblivion?

I have 5.1 creative speakers with 3 minijacks to connect to the pc. Will these work with the xbox?
If not, can I run the Optical out into my EMU0404 optical in and then out through the stereo speakers on that, or is it only optical 5.1 out?

Couldn't see the technical ones on the faq sticky.

Ta muchly :)

1. You can buy a seperate VGA cable for your monitor.
2. CoD2 rocked on the 360, didn't play the pc version.
3. OBLIVION all the way baby.
4. You can buy a seperate optical cable to go from the xbox optical out to the optical in of your sound system. Failing that you'll get stereo from your system and require adapters to go from phono to 3.5mm jack.

I have played COD2 a little on the 360, around a friends house. It plays awesome on the 360, though he was only playing on a standard TV and not using a monitor or HDTV...I imagine COD would play about the same as it would on a top spec PC.

i played cod 2 at a high level on the PC, its better on the console imo, you will see when you play it, remember how every1 complained on the PC version how the hitboxes are too big, well if works great on the pad on the 360, controls work well and GFX are ace

only problem is i was unable to find a Cod 2 community on Xbox live, so i sold it

I got COD2 on the 360 cause it struggles a bit on my pc. I was worried about the controls but it actually works really well on the joypad. It's runs really well too. I need to try the multiplayer again now they have patched the lag.

It won't output actual "HD" but it will output a higher resolution, so to all intents and purposes, yes, it does, but you will need a VGA cable - Official or Joytech are the ones to get, apparently the Blaze ones are terrible.

I thought it was head and shoulders better on the Xbox360. I didn't like it at all on the PC (despite loving COD(1) and the add-on pack) I couldn't get away with it, until Burnout was released it was the best game on the console (for single player).
GR:AW or Oblivion?
Oblivion, definitely. I couldn't get away with Ghost Recon, definitely a good game, but I have played better. Oblivion is so immersive that I'm afraid to play it whilst I have coursework to do, for that reason I haven't played too much of it. I feel you will definitely get more gameplay time from Oblivion, however, I am a fan of Ghost Recon multiplayer.

Optical is the only way to get an ACTUAL 5.1 signal sent out. I use the Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro for this with the TD7700 speakers and my friend uses Logitech z-5500 5.1 speakers with optical direct to them and it's definitely better. I will be selling these speakers and be replacing them with the Logitechs as soon as possible.

Hope that helps.

Yep that helps a lot :)

Not sure what to do.. decisions decisions..

Can get:

Revolution + Fender Jimmie Vaughan Sig Strat

Xbox 360..

Xb 360 off one of those free*.com sites + above..

Heh, my mate did so many of those.. he has a 32" samsung HD LCD Tv, a 360, a video ipod, a ps3 on preorder and a Nano he sold.. He spent about 50quid on signing up to the sponsors for all of it combined

Cheap ****** :P

No way! I thought all of them were just fake, sure he didnt just buy the stuff and tell you he got it free? :p

a lot of reviews say COD2 runs better on the 360 due to framerate issues on the pc, but it cant hold as many people as the pc in online matches. I have completed it on both platforms and preferred the 360, ran really smooth.

As for Oblivion or GRAW, judging by the name they get, whichever one you get you will unlikely be dissapointed, I think GRAW is amazing, the single player is excellent, if possible, get both!

* monitor should be fine with a male/female vga adaptor thingy and of course, a vga xbox 360 lead.
* i've read in several places that COD2 on the 360 is the equal of the PC version. Some prefer it.
* GRAW without a shadow of a doubt
* not sure about the sound, but running the optical out into your EMU sounds about right!

His HDtv is in post on way, he sold the xbox to his sisters boyfriend and uses the ipod video :p Sold the nano on ebay.

Thanks Punch :)

Lucky man, whenever I see stuff like that I just think 'scam!' straightaway, what made him so sure it wasnt a scam?

If you like shooting type games, then definately GRAW, I havent played oblivion but it gets a good name, if you like that type of game then I'm sure you will enjoy, but I dont think you can go wrong with GRAW. The third person view works well with the controller.

He just tried the ipod one.. got an ipod so just started doing every one he could find.

I believe they are pyramid schemes. You will get one if many people go for it at the same time, however, as more people are on the harder it is to get something!
