Running Firefox 3.1 beta2 along with Win XP. After booting to desktop, i click FF and suddenly the mouse pointer ' busy ' ( the little hourglass thingy ) is flicking like a mad thingy. So i hit control /alt / delete quickly to see what the activity is , and here is the result :

Within 5 or 6 seconds all those FF's disappear ( hence having to be quick with the control / alt / delete ) , but on the bottom blue section left hand side, it says there's 82 FF's loaded. It varies though. Just before this post here, it was 55. I right click and ' Close Group ' and can open FF normally.

Below is what the Task manager looks like after those 5 or 6 seconds i mentioned above, but this screenshot is before i closed the group. So basically, the group is there at the bottom ( so it looks anyway ) but not any longer in the Task manager, as can be seen

I havent the foggiest whats going on here, so any advice welcome :)

It's not normal, unless you clicked the shortcut dozens of times. The number at the bottom's the total number of all processes though.

Has it happened since?

Hi Mr T - no i dont click the FF icon more than once. Oh, and it happens every time i open FF from a new boot. After the shenaningans of the first opening of FF, it never happens again till i log off and shut down, and boot up the PC. It will do this everytime, just once, from a fresh boot.

Oh yes, that number you can see at the bottom of task manager is as you say, the TOTAL number of processes open, but i was referring to the the dark blue border at the bottom of the screen where the start button sits and various other progs. It was there that i could see the total number of FF's open, as it gave me the total ...86 ...55 etc. To close that many versions of FF, i had to right click on the bottom blue bar where the number 85 /55 is, and then hit ' CLOSE GROUP ' By the way, during this weirdness, there is NO FF loaded on the screen. I only get FF on the screen after i've been through the above process and closed all 80 + versions. I then get FF to open normally.

I may have everyone foxed with this one :D

I just identified the problem without the profile change mr T.

It was the Super Anti Spyware proggy causing the aggro. I've reset some of the preferences and i will see what happens on the next boot up.

Cheers for your help
