FF games on PSN - any way to save at any point?

Well I've played a lot of FF7 now thanks to it being on PSN for the PS3. I'm just starting on FF8, and one of my real hatreds still persists - I can only save at save points.

Games are something I play when I have time, and they're secondary to whatever I'm doing in my life at that point. If I need to get up and do something mid gaming session, I will. I find it a royal pain that I can only save at certain points, and was wondering (given that it's being emulated on the PS3) if there was any way to "save running game state" or similar, so that I can resume at my leisure?

Any responses appreciated!

Cheers.

Just in case you didn't know, you can save anywhere on the world map in FF games :). If you don't mind wasting a bit of leccy (Assuming you're not gone for too long) you could pause the game and turn the TV off so you start where you left off. It's what I did back in the day :D.

You can also play on PSP with the same purchase, and transfer saves between the two. On a PSP, 'sleep mode' almost lets you do this. You can press the power switch, the PSP looks like it's off, then when you turn it on you're in the same place.

Sleep mode uses a bit of power, but on my battery it will survive a few days. This only works if you don't want to do anything else with your PSP in between gaming sessions - you can't exit to the menu and come back to where you were.
