SE has announced that FF13 will release on December 17 in Japan on PS3, so all you importers stick the date on your calander. Still no news on a US/EU release yet though :(

How awesome would an english language subs selection be on the Jap version :D

I'd prefer it that way, All english subs, jap languages. <3

I know it will never ever ever ever happen, But it'd be nice.

I hope the EU release isnt too far away, I'm dying for this game.

If FFXII is anything to go by we could be looking at up to a 2 year wait :(

If it has english subs i'm buying for sure, i always enable jap audio if a JRPG has it.

If Japan get the Dec '09 release then they will probably push for a Xmas 2010 US launch, however I reckon it'll be March 2011 personally.

As for the EU... god knows, probably September - December 2011.

Insane really considering how long the game has been in production. Why not start the localisation during the production or at least near the end? The waiting times for the EU on Final Fantasy titles is simply pathetic considering we're talking about a company like SE. Its something I'll never really understand, especially considering you hear the head of SE saying they need to be more competative and faster on releasing titles worldwide to compete with the western developers.

No its out 2010 in the US, so ill get the US version if its going to be out a few months earlier. It seems that march - june date for the US seems to be the most common thought.

If the Jap one has English audio in it, then yeah I'll just get that one to save waiting a few - 6 months for an American/English release. I doubt it will though as I'd imagine the wait of whatever months would be for getting more languages in.

If the Jap one has English audio in it

Definitely won't have it, the creation of the English voiced version will only begin once the Jap version is done. Subtitles is the best we can hope for and even that is extremely far fetched.

I'm also fairly certain we'll have to wait a lot longer than 6 months for an EU release, as stated previously XII was pretty much a two year wait.

FF12 was less than a year for EU from Japan release, and the American release was 7 months from the original Jap release. FF10 was the same. FF11 however was the one with the 2 year gap, and I'd imagine it was because it was an MMO.

But yeah I'd agree on the audio, it's a very very very long shot - I'd imagine it if did contain English audio they'd be publishing it in EU at around the same time.

Sorry to disappoint but the Japanese version more then liikely won't have English subs and the English version won't have Japanese voices either, but the good news is that they are aiming for a Spring 2010 release worldwide for the English version for both 360 & PS3. Square have been made a point of saying they are trying to speed up the localization process for all their future releases.

They havent said anything about English subs on the Japanese version, but from a business point of view it seems more then likely it won't happen if you think about it. Firstly because Microsofts deal with them is that they will release the PS3 and 360 version simultaneously outside of Japan and if they include English subs as an option a lot of people worldwide would just import it, which could breach Microsofts and Squares contract/deal/agreement or w/e.
Secondly most people in Japan who will buy this game won't give a flying **** if their version has English subtitles :p

But what about FFXIII for the Asian region as a whole where PS3s are sold - Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc.?

They have their own separate versions which are not American nor Japanese. So they may release the game there on PS3 with English subs/voice as that area is not part of Microsoft's deal which was only EMEA and NA.

I don't think it was even originally going to happen, It was mainly rumours and big sites latching on to rumours and publishing as they do.

I mean did anyone actually read anything from Square Enix on the matter? I'm hoping you did because I never did

I think you're right tbh, everyone was saying simultaneous worldwide release for all platforms so the PS3 version would be delayed when squeenix simply said 'simultaneous worldwide release'. Squeenix later followed up saying that the 360 development would i no way affect the development of the PS3 version which i can only assume means PS3 will come first.

I'm not fussed when either comes out as long as the one scheduled to be released first isn't delayed, i need this game.

I've just done a bit of research, And looks like there are 1 or 2 things i've missed, Will update this post with them shortly.

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase says that this time around, the process has been streamlined.

“For example we have already started recording English voices, and also the text localisation has been in progress, too," he said. "Normally we complete the Japanese version first, then move on to the US and EU versions, but this time there are some tasks that are happening simultaneously. So this time we're hoping to release sooner than a year later than the Japanese release.”

Another interesting point of significance in this 1UP article is the information that the 360 port is being handled by a separate team, meaning translation/localisation and porting can occur simultaneously with no delay. Given the fact that Final Fantasy XIII is being developed using Square Enix’s ‘Crystal Tools’ technology (a multi platform engine) the porting process will be handled relatively easily.

Just some bits I found when looking around.

Also these are the dates from previous releases of Final Fantasy

FFX:
Japan: 19/07/2001
North America: 20/12/2001
European/PAL: 29/05/2002

FFX-2:
Japan: 13/03/2003
North America: 18/11/2003
European/PAL: 20/02/2004

FFXII:
Japan: 16/03/2006
North America: 31/10/2006
European/PAL: 23/02/2007

There's always been a delay between America and PAL\Europe, MS have nothing to do with the delay

Last i read this plan had been ditched.

I'm just going on what I last heard which was Microsoft's E3 conference, where Square said a simultaneous release was planned for both PS3 & 360 sometime in spring 2010, but it will no doubt be pushed back as it always is and I've not heard anything else since then saying anything different. There have also been interviews with both Toriyama and Kitase since E3 and nothing about any change in plans regarding release dates came up in those either (unless I've missed something over the past few months).

But I am fairly confident that it will be released in North America and Europe around the same time (within an acceptable time frame), since all games that Microsoft has involvement with either directly or indirectly always get released worldwide within the same week. And Microsofts involvement this time would be paying Square to make it multi-platform and to release it on 360 at the same time as the PS3 version (outside of Japan obviously) so I would say it's likely to get a similar release date to North America.

Also regarding other languages they will be in the form of subtitles IIRC so it's not like they have to go redo the voices in French, German, Spanish etc. so they could in theory do the subtitle translations all at the same time because they would likely bring in outside help to do the work for them.
