I've recently un-installed Vista Codec Pack to try FFDshow and Hali Media Splitter. Everything plays fine in MP but when I try to play files in Vista MC it says it cannot play the file. Is there anything you have to do in the FFDshow config to make it play files in Vista MC?

If it's Vista x64 then I don't know of a way. In x64 WMC is a 64-bit program so you need 64-bit codecs (or whatever you class FFDShow as).

Ah I had exactly this issue - I'm assuming that you have VMC 64bit - if not ignore everything I have to say! So, 'this_is_gav' is spot on, VMC is a 64bit application so you have to install a 64 bit version of ffdshow (just out of interest windows media player is 32bit so you should be able to play files with that at the moment). You can get a 64bit version of ffdshow tryouts from their sourceforge site (they the 64bit versions are flagged up as beta software but work fine for me). Good luck.

install vista codec package and the 64bit components that the same guy makes

works like a charm

I don't get any sound when playing mkv files through MC using them, hence the switch.

Didn't realise there was a 64bit version of FFDshow, got that installed now along with MatroskaSplitter x64 and mkv files works perfectly in MC! :D
