FFXIV - What a terrible game!

So i've heard a lot of chatter about this game being really good. So i downloaded the free trial and gave it an hour.

My god its horrible. Animation, graphically, silence!?, quests are so boring and the starting area.....my god I'm just running around like a headless chicken talking to random people about random crap. I want to see the combat but i just couldn't bring my self to get past it.

No global chat to ask for help?

The opening scene on the ship! The bearded man looks creepy as hell, the boats aren't even animated correctly, they just hover on the water with special effects at the bottom to make it appear as if its moving.

Whats the deal? What am i not doing right? Its just feels like a low budget MMO from Frogster.

The start is pretty grim. The reward for getting past it is a pretty good MMO. I found myself starting to enjoy it around level 20.

It is a bit of an ask really, but there you go.

It's a pretty good MMO actually and I enjoyed the main story quest. That said I stopped after about 4 months playing. I enjoyed it up to max level, but I am kind of bored of point and click autoattack + excessive skillbars. Also the classes were bland, I like to be able to customise builds as that is what keeps me interested long term to keep things fresh.

It's a solid traditional MMO which I guess is its strength and weakness
