Development in the next MMO installment of everybody's favourite RPG series is well underway. According to Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/rumor-ffxiv-beta-may-kick-off-in-september/) closed betas are likely as soon as September - if you're lucky enough to live in Japan.

So, will this be a WoW-beater?

The fans think so - fan forums are already springing into action, take a look at http://www.ff14guru.com/forum/index.php and maybe even sign up - I for one am fed up with always being the last to jump on the bandwagon ^_^

(Um, that's Final Fantasy 14, for those of you who've been stuck in WoW for the last few years :D)

I am but ill be getting it on 360 or PS3, just how i started playing final fantasy and just prefer it to be on a console!

I am most 100% definitely getting it. Played 11 from US release for a good year or two and loved it.

This will be more of the same just better. Can't wait!

Bit on the early side of things yet, but i can only see either this or The Old Republic getting a shot my WoW subs money :)

Loved 11 to bits, but depending on time requirements, I may have too pass on it. However I think they've admitted that time was an issue in 11 and its one area they'll be fixing with 14.

Its going to be interesting to see! Any MMORPG thats not made from a western dev is worth a glance at. The market is smoothered with MMORPGs that are the same as each other.

I'm looking forward to it more than The Old Republic tbh.

Er WTF!

any mmo not made by a western dev is "BARELY" worth a glance at.

the ammount of korean mmo grind fests that are a clone of each other with microtransactions everywhere is far far far worse than anything mmo wise in the western world

These 'grind fests' and microtransactions work well in the east so why would the developers not 'copy' each other and use these types of gameplay.

It's just like most western MMO's try to copy WoW.

At least eastern developed MMORPG's are actually RPG's and you have to put in some effort to be rewarded rather than whine until you get things given to you on a plate as seems to be the trend with most western MMO's.

Give me a RPG focused Korean MMORPG with PvE focus where the time I put in is noticeable in comparison to somebody who plays for 4 hours a week over a PvP driven PvE game where I can get the same gear as hard core players by doing 10 PvP matches per week.

Not all 100% correct but you get the idea.
