Hi all,

I'm considering spending around 4k on a new car. I've had a Rev4 MR2, and didn't think it was much cop (dangerous handling, lardy, unimpressive engine - N/A).

I've been dreaming of a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo ... but being Italian and turbo sounds expensive. Can anyone shed some light on realistic running costs of them? Also, any more suggestions are welcome. I've no need for 4 seats, etc etc.

£4k will get you a s14a and then mod it should you wish with more money.

s14a touring looks a lot nicer :p

A MR2 hardly has dangerous handling.

Agreed, the only thing that makes any (roadworthy) car dangerous is the person behind the wheel. If the Rev4 is dangerous than I should be dead by now with my Rev2.

4K ? hmmm probabally better cars out there for better bucks!

No 20v. The early ones used a 4 cyclinder 2 litre engine and then later ones a 5 cyclinder (also 2 litre). Both version came in Turbo and non Turbo.

i dont know, but how about an RX-7 ? not sure if you'll get one for 4K though, i know my brother imported one for about 8K 2 years ago, since then they have come down quite a bit.. have a look, u might just get one!

Exactly, seems he should be a member of the FWD club.

I know it's an age old debate and all. But i really do find driving a FWD car to be far more dangerous than driving a RWD car.

Well, back on topic....

Its pretty hit and miss with the fiat coupe. Some of the guys have had the car 3 or 4 years with very few problems. Others have had a bad time.

I bought a 1997 P reg 20v turbo about 9 months ago for 3k. Since then I've spent about a grand on it.

I'm not gonna put you under the illusion that its a cheap car to run. However I'm also sure than all the other cars being mentioned here are all equally expensive to run and maintain.

TorqueItalia do a 2.4l conversion for the Fiat Coupe. Perhaps you're thinking of that. (there are some rumours that they're now working on a 2.6 conversion too  ).

Out of interest how many people in the owners club do their own repairs and servicing?

I would say that more people in fccuk do their own repairs than most clubs. Of course there are jobs that you can't do yourself, but the club have a fantastic wealth of 'how to' guides that let anyone with a the confidence to use a spanner do a whole load of jobs.

makes me pee my pants laughing when i read someone blabber on about "mr2s are dangerous".

they are not, not at all. its all about the tool behind the wheel, whos probably just graduated from a Citroen AX. :D

i had a rev2 with 290 bhp at the wheels mofo
