My boss is moving soon and wants to sell his Fiat Punto. It's a Sporting edition, with the 16V. It's 51reg (2001), has clocked just under 20k miles, has GPS and has had all required services with Fiat. He is offering it to me for £3k. It will be my first car...

What do you guys reckon, good buy? What should I look out for in the Service History? Any known breaking points?

Granted, but the difference in mileage between 20k and 50k miles is nothing. For a first car, my guessing is he will keep for a year or two and then sell up for something sportier.

Servicing costs will be the same for those (average) 20k mile as most car's don't require major servicing until 70k miles. I can't think that the re-sale on a £3k car will alter greatly in a couple of years depending on mileage either.
