Fiber... and keeping "regular"

Hi all,

now then. My body requires fiber to keep "regular" and without it certain "blockups" can occur. Not usually a problem at home, enjoy the wholemeal bread, porridge, beans and weetabix.

However, not so easy to maintain when im on holiday, and the last thing I want todo is spend 30 mins (or more!!) on the bog every day! Soooo, im wondering, is there anything I can eat on holiday to keep me regular? I.e. eating a prune after a meal or something.

I don't want any sort of diuretic, just something that contains fiber.

On the top of my head, i know of Dried Figs and Prunes. I'm wondering, does anyone know of anything better? Is it possible to get fiber tablets maybe?

Any help on maintaining a good quality holiday would be muchos appreciated :D

Hey, this is dangerously close to a medical thread, but my advice to you is go to your local pharmacy and have a word with them. There are a lot of fibre containing laxatives available over the counter (I am a pharmacist btw).

They will sort you out

How old are you? The only people who worry about keeping 'regular' are usually 60+:p

haha, im not old, my guts just like their fibre lol.

I didnt think this was a medial thread, like I said I dont want laxatives. I just want high fibre snacks to munch on during my holiday because I know I will be eating a lot of junk :D Thats what holidays are for right?

After my 3rd-4th day, im pretty sure things will be grinding to a halt. I think its becasue I've always had a pretty high fibre diet, so when I take the fibre away, my poor guts dont know what todo LOL.

Wholemeal bread, possibly. However, I know that i may be eating junky breakfast buffets in Vegas lol, so, want something to help it on its way.

Thanks all,
TM

I think the RDA is 27grams of fibre a day, thats about 4 bowls of allbran, most people struggle to get 27 grams, the other thing about fibre is you need to drink fluids otherwise the fibre dont get flushed

You can buy allbran bars they dont taste too bad

What, thats a crazy amount. But then again, if you are eating fruits + wholemeal cerials I suppose it adds up.

i was thinking about eating 2 dried figs every day, apparently they can keep you going.

There is stuff called Metamucil you can get :)

its a powder that you mix into water and then you drink it. Should be able to bring it every where with you.
It will have you pooping like clock work :D

Ive used this the only thing is that you have to keep it in the fridge cos its got bacteria in it.

* please note I am not seeking the "OCUK man of fibre award"

Fiber = US English
Fibre proper Queens English
