Yep, it can. If it got hot enough then it would melt, but I don't expect that you'll be heating up to the same sort of level thata fusion splicer would?
No not that sort of heat, basically the cable runs through some trunking in our grarage where all our Air Con extractors blow out the warm air, so the garage can get very very warm, possibly about 40 - 50 degrees in the excess heat.
