Fiesta ST's... whats to know?

nope ph1 running a turbo, use to kill a gearbox on average once a month,if the driveshafts lasted long enough for the box to break that was :)

Quick, let's argue before the world implodes.

I wonder what the cost of running and maintaining an ST vs. a 182 would be? :)

Having the cam and aux belts done just once on the Clio takes you a significant way toward the ST modifications ;)

The 182 is nothing at all to maintain, yes you have the belts to worry about but that is every 5 years or so and around £450. I am sure all parts on the ST and 182 would be the same give or take.

Ohhh nice :) Don't see many 172s running a turbo My friend has a SC'd and that made around 250 through the wheels! Seriously good fun

I don't believe for one second that unscheduled maintenance is 'nothing' on a 182, or even anywhere near as little as your typical modern Ford.

From what I've been reading, they are notorious for costing a fair bit to keep going. They certainly aren't known for their reliability or build quality.

Swapped the turbo out in the end and ran it for a short while on ITB's, got fed up with every other drivetrain component failing so got rid. Was hilarious ownership apart from the costs.

Serviced properly and not ragged to death [which is rare] they are pretty good, its the electrics that cause most issues. Still a great car to own and pretty rapid.

Go on then do some looking up into parts and service cost. Dont quote main dealer prices please!! Renault are crap. Reliability and build quality? Please explain that one.

Haha nice! Bet it was good fun :) What kind of power was it making?

Any car has the potential to be a money pit.

If it is something that'll keep you awake to the extent you imply you could always stick the couple of GRAND saved on buying the 182 over the ST in the bank for a rainy day fund.

Seriously, I don't think there is an augment out there that someone can logically explain why they'd pick a ST over a 182 (on paper at least)

Stop going on about the money saved buying a 182, it was discontinued in 2005 and a 2005 Fiesta ST is roughly the same money. You only save a couple of grand compared to buying a 2007 or newer Fiesta ST.

230BHP when GDi took it to the RR after fitting the turbo.

How does the ST compare to the 172? Just pure driving pleasure don't count reliabilty in that ha!! :D

And Joshy I agree 100%, I may own a 182FF so maybe I have a bit of Renault fanboyism inside me, but I cant see why you would not! You will save a few ££ buying the Clio too!

But life is about choices so if he wants an ST so be it :)

You can pick up an 182 on a 2005 plate for around £3.5/4K I cant see STs that cheap?

Its a lot more comfortable than the 172 then again with the suspension it was running a penny farthing would be as comfy. Will put the eibach springs on the Focus before i could really give a unbiased opinion but, all round the Focus is in a different league as you would expect. Its nowhere as raw as the 172 which in my opinion is a shame, i suppose its a lot more grown-up if that makes sense.

Gotta love the fanboyism on show here! :) And I include myself in this statement - I myself will freely admit to favouring Fords, as a kid I always had a thing for cossies and after being taken for a blast in a group A escort when I was 11 the blue oval had a certain something :D

Logically one can argue to the ends of time about why you should buy one car over the other but there is always that personal preference that drives you - its not just about buying with your head.

And all of those cars are lacking the vital mountune kit that even the ST supporters admit the Fiesta needs to be in the same ball park as the 182...

Hardly any have the kit fitted at all. This thread was always to discuss the ST which is a totally different entity from a 182. It's good at different things. I'm sure the op is well aware of the 182 and doesn't need people banging on about how much quicker it is.
