Incredibly underrated car. Sublime handling for an eighties FWD hatch...Supremely competant on ye goode olde British B Roade too.

Man speaks the truth :D

Friends Xr2 I drive has been very competitive @ haynes, a small tight track which goes in favour of the Xr2 but you got to love it when you come first in a field of 300bhp+ scoobs in a stock looking b reg xr2 :D

I was also around 2 to 3 tenths slower that the fastest tuned Evo on MLR day.

Hopefully loosing more wieght + more power from her soon.

Great little cars.

Mk1 Supersport has to be the best looking of the Fiestas

Mk1 Supersport for the win though.

You really need to drive a 205 gti if you think the xr2 is good. The xr2 doesn't even compare well to a nova gte.

I've driven all three, thanks.

The Nova is also criminally underrated.

My experience of driving them was in the late 90's but the 2 I've driven felt poor. I remeber the gear boxes being especially bad but it could just have been they aged badly. They were still better than the xr2i or the turbo though.

205 GTi's feel quicker but I personally prefer the nova as it's not as harsh and for me is quicker on back roads as the suspension is slightly softer. Once I find a non rusty un chaved GSI I'll own one again.

The XR2 I drove had been freshly recommisioned to stock (it's previous owner had..er... 'interesting' modification ideas).

I've driven stock 1600 and 1900 205s and my dad's 1600 Rally car.

I've only driven 'modified' Novas (all to Group. A spec, oddly enough :/) and found them all surprisingly great.

Was never impressed by either the XR2 or the Nova's handling at the time they were sold, the XR2 in particular always felt a bit soggy with very little feedback. The 205 GTi is in a different league IME.
