Am having real problems trying to get this to run "smooth"..... looks like low FPS but it isnt if that makes sense.

AMD A64 3000
2GB RAM
X800XL 256MB
Cat 6.9

Have tried adjusting screen res, disabling AA/AF etc, enabling V-Sync.

Im not refering to the cutscene issue but actual gameplay, it just seems not to be smooth.

Anyone else having similiar issues?

only on the cut scene type thing where the goal keeper takes a bykick or a throwin is taken or a goal is scored..,or an instant replay but general play is perfect with everything maxed. but those things are not improved if settings are put on min

running fine for me, 4000+, 2gb ram, 7800GT

i'd imagine your machine would be much more than capable of running FIFA ?

perhaps its driver issues with the CATs? tried running a different version?

yah ive got an ati 1900xtx

e6600
creative xifi

and I get the stutter aswell...its most likely the ati drivers it doesnt like

as far as i know, theres no patch for FIFA07 yet ;)

edit:

i'm presuming this is caused by drivers, since both of you are having problems and your both running ATI cards?

would be nice to see if other ATI users are experiencing problems

I downloaded the demo the other day and had similar issues in the cut scenes - looks like it's running at about 3fps, but the actual game has no problems running at all.

Also using an ati card, x800xtpe.

I'd say yours would be better due the the 4000+ and 7800GT? X800XL is equal to a 6800GT isnt it?

However hes still shouldnt be jerky - I'm guessing maybe the patch.

I think he was saying that my rig is more than capable of playing the game, not more capable than his system. I wish :)

exactly ;)
i was trying to say that his machine should be more than capable of playing FIFA, not that his is better than mine :p

edit: and as said, no patch out for fifa 07 yet... we've seen 3 people in the thread all with ATI cards all experiencing (some sort of) problems.

If you run the game in a window it stops the lag in the cutscenes/ set pieces.

You can run the game in a window but putting WINDOWED=1 in the target field

lol why do ati have these wierd driver problems lol...give nvidia that ..they tend to be better on the driver front than ati.
saying that my own is experience is ati cards tend to be durable and last a fair amount of time

Found this on another forum

Ok, I'm sure many notice a slight stutter in the game, even with a powerful computer (as if its not running smooth). Well, that can be fixed and I have done so (I hope it works for you also, it should as I tested it with a couple different computers).

All edits have been done in the "cfg_pc_h.ini", "cgf_pc_m.ini", and "cgf_pc_l.ini" files found in
"C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\FIFA 07\data\cmn" or wherever you installed FIFA 07 to.

Here are the changes.

Changed RENDER_RATE_MODE from 7 to 2 (this makes the game run smoother when you make long passes or any time the camera moves to follow the ball, you'll love how much smoother it is).

EDIT: If anyone wants to understand why this is 2 instead of 7, I will explain this now. While using FRAPS, I noticed when "RENDER_RATE_MODE = 2", its as if it forced FIFA 07 to try and stay at a steady 60fps (very little change, 55-60fps). When "RENDER_RATE_MODE = 7", I noticed it bounce around all over the place, it wasnt doing a good job of keeping a steady framerate (anywhere from 45-85fps), hence why it seems jerky. Remember I am talking about gameplay and not the cutscenes (they seem to run lower not matter what setting).

Thanks for the above.

I tried and unfortunately did not work :(

I have found this on the Official Fifa 07 Forum, could someone verify if it makes a difference - ONLY FOR ATI USERS

The jerky problem is based on the ATI drivers..My Video card is the same as yours..And i'm now running the game on 1600X1200...with a decent framerate, the jerkin is gone...
I've tested both EA Sports games, and that is NHL 07 and FIFA 07.
Both of these games requires an older drivers...If u are using ATI CATALYST 6.3 and above, the jerky problem will be affected in the game.Same goes to NHL 07..I don't know why but it seems both NHL and FIFA are usin the same old engine,so that's why it requires an older drivers.I'm using ATI catalyst 5.9 which has the best performance on Fifa and NHL 07..I've tested almost all of the drivers and i think 5.9 is the best for ATI X800XL...
So here's the solution:
1)Download the ATI CATALYST 5.9 and Install it
2)Restart the computer after Installing the ATI CATALYST 5.9 drivers
3)PLAY THE GAME...
Here's the link to the ATI CATALYST 5.9 Driver:
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/5-9_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_26409.exe
Then post if it works or not..It does for me..i'm sure it works for u too..

Note: Some Newer games Like Call Of Duty 2,F.E.A.R might gettin some performance loss if u are using the older drivers.

Thanks for the heads up ScarySquirrel, will certainly come in useful. I had the exact same problem with cutscenes. Dont think its just ATI drivers causing it. This game needs patching.

If I run fifa07 from boot, I dont have any problems at all. Well, apart from the odd lag and jerk in the stadium cutscenes. However if I run it after playing Oblivion, I get the horrible 2fps affect in the stadium cutscenes.

Just tried the above tips. Works a treat. Can even put graphics o high now with no lag at all. Smooth. Thanks dude. Appreciated.
