right, not wanting to start a fifa vs pes debate as we all know its a stalemate but these are my feelings and i'm wondering who feels the same...

first up, i'm not a die hard fan of either, i just like a good footy game... this year i went with pro evo (ps3 by the way) at release after playing the demos of both, this was purely based on the gameplay and fluidity of the movements etc...

upon getting pro, i loved playing against mates, but never got into the master league or any of that as it just seemed so damn unpolished and put me off (i had it patched so the names were right and the kits were kinda right but without the sponsors and badges etc (due to the fact that you have to put so very very many files into your savegame folder and simply didn't want to do it)) - things like starting a league and having to move all the premiership teams into one place and having to have one foreign team in the premiership just to make up numbers until you get there... to me this is just really crap.

anyway, the culmination of these issues topped by the fact that some of my players didn't even have faces (just 1 colour and NO DATA written on their face) made me buy fifa 09... but now i'm dissilussioned with this :( - the game surounding the gameplay is very polished and i must say excellent, but when it comes to the very important factor of gameplay, it just feels very plastic and synthetic in comparison to pes... you don't feel as in control of the ball and the movements and everything just dont hit the spot...

do most people agree? is this years games a lost cause should we just see if the 2010 games are any better?

Have you tried taking the assistance levels down to semi or even manual, will give you a lot more control.

Not trying to rattle the cage here with others but Fifa has it hands down this year.

Fifa just takes some getting used to. It is by no means perfect but it's by far the best game out there.

I'd be happy to play PES6 with much better graphics.

I hate the hold A and run into players on Fifa but other than that I have really started to enjoy it. It really need's to be made a touch easier to go round a player as well but I guess that balance will be impossible to make and keep everyone happy. The responsiveness isn't anywhere near as good as the old evo's. I have no confidence in rounding a keeper, in fact I have never managed it.

I played a lot of both this year. I liked the PES demo but after getting ripped off for last years I went for fifa. Didn't get on with it that well and so bought Evo. Realised then immediately how far behind it was so sold it asap and bought fifa again :D

I switched from PES to Fifa a couple of weeks ago, and Fifa's gameplay is far more "football" IMO. Pro is still better to pick up and play against mates; it's a simpler game which anyone can pick up, football fan or otherwise. Fifa, on the other hand, needs a decent amount of nouse to play-you need to understand passing and moving, as legging it round an entire team just doesn't work. For me, Fifa is more realistic, Pro is more arcadey.

I have been a pro man my self since FIFA 04 and love masterleague, is there such a mode in FIFA as I'm really getting annoyed with the arcadeness of pro :(

If 'it' is non existent gameplay then yes, Fifa has 'it' this year. Pro evo 2009 owns fifa 09, 09 isn't even as good as fifa 08.

I think I agree with the OP. The whole experience of Fifa is great, the kits, players, teams, stadiums, game modes etc - everything about it is fantastic...

However, the gameplay has a few things that let it down. I don't feel as 'in control' as PES. By this I don't mean I can't pass to where I want etc, I mean it takes too long to bring the ball under control, change pace and generally run round people. Running round the keeper is near impossible, IMO. I find my self just holding A or B or both when tackling, seems to work most of the time. I know its a sort of 'cheat' but it is so effective I can't stop my self doing it. Also, I seem to hit the post all the time!! The combination of these often sees me getting extremely frustrated, especially when playing with mates. Something I didn't really get with PES 6.

Despite all these 'flaws' I still can't put the game down, manager mode keeps me gripped as does BAP.

There is Manager Mode in FIFA which is basicly Masterleague, some little pro's and cons for you (that i have found)

Pros
Players cost £ and not ML points
You play in real leagues instead a made up ones.
If you put a player up for sale or loan, you will get bids for him.
You can decide to change clubs at the end of the season.

Cons
You cant swap players
you dont get a period of transfers without playing games.
You dont have pre season friendlies
You cant make a club up.

Its better to pick a lower league team and bring them up to the premiership. Its more challenging and lasts longer.

Fifa has a few niggles, but it plays a far better game than pro evo this year.

I still play PES06 occasionally though online, i still find it better than either of them.

I have both Fifa 09 and PES 09 I have to say that Fifa is much better, the dribbling in PES feels so wooden, it does not feel like a flow when you run with the ball, I am still enjoying PES but I find Fifa easier to pick up and play.

cheers mate, the fact that you cant create your own team is annyoing me, are there secret unknown players which tend to become amazing?

In FIFA I played a BAP season with my created player and then started Manager mode which allowed me to dump my player into the team of my choice. End result I was Luton Town and my created player was in the early 80s while the rest of the team were in the 50s/60s...

Made a good difference...

the main problems with fifa is how easily your players fall down, for instance i hate when i have the ball and my back is towards the other player yet he comes and knocks me to the floor and ghosts through me, sometimes players fall down for no reason.

also the delay in passing and shooting is annoying at times, press to shoot....1....2....3..and....oh no the goalkeeper has come out and claimed it.

ps the radar is also cack compared to pes's. used to use the radar all the time but never use it in fifa

Was a Pro Evo man but after playing FIFA 09 on the XBOX I'll be sticking with that for now, been with Pro Evo since ISS 98 but PES 2008 just felt like such a poor game. FIFA right now really is head and shoulders above Pro Evo. It has a few niggles but then again Pro Evo has quite a few. Players fall down too easily, the referee playing advantage things usually messes you about and it is hard dribbling past players but apart from that it feels so much better to play. So many more little touches on it that make it feel more polished to Pro Evo, Konami have got complacent and taken their eye off the ball here. Commentary is also so much better but that was more often than not always the case.

Also found Pro Evo far too easy against the Computer whereas FIFA seems a lot more challenging so far anyway, though that might be because I've not played FIFA in a long long time.

Can't see how people prefer fifa, pes has depth of play, fifa is you get what you see in the first few seconds of play i.e. no depth whatsoever. Fifa isn't anything like football.

ROFL depth :p

All I hear from my PES chums is - why cant I run past people like I can in PES to score. 2 games later they ask how much I paid for the game and where from - converted at least 2 PES players to FIFA...

After 10 years of PES, im now a full FIFA convert, its better but still has a lot of flaws. As said, it take a lot of time to get into FIFA, it's not something that grabs you immediately like PES.
