I'm stumped with trying to figure out which product key is being used in my current PC.

I have Win 8.1 upgraded from Win 7 so the product key is different but I have two copies of Windows 7, one which I've sold. I need to figure out which of the two my PC used for the upgrade so I can post the other one off, any chance of figuring that out?

Thanks but it wasn't able to retrieve the Win 7 key, I'm guessing it's probably not available since updating to Win8.

I guess I'll just have to take an educated guess and send off the one I think hasn't been used. Not sure if it will flag up when they install that the key has been previously used although I suppose I could re-format my machine and use my remaining key. Agh, nightmare.

Did you do an in-place upgrade, rather than a clean format/install? If so, is the previous Win7 installation (typically renamed "windows.old") still there, or did you delete it? If it's still there, you might be able to use Magical Jelly Bean's "load hive" option and point it at the old Windows folder, although I've never tried it in this specific scenario.

I'm assuming it was a retail Win 7 rather than manufacturer OEM installation, so they key isn't on a case sticker...

It was the upgrade, I got it when it was really cheap when Win8 first came out. There was a Windows.old but I deleted it to free up some space and keep things tidy, ah well!

Magical Jelly Bean keyfinder is good but didn't help me out. I did find an opensource version of it called EKeyfinder for anyone else out there looking to get a good and free product key finder.
