Filco Keyboard - why can't I type

Hi,

I have an issue with my filco keyboard in that I can't seem to type properly on it. I seem to make many more mistakes on it than a normal keyboard. I've been using it for a 3-4 weeks now.

I was wondering if anyone who owns this keyboard (Filco Ninja Majestouch-2) can tell me if they had problems adjusting.

Possible reasons:
Keys not spaced as much as a normal keyboard
No letters on the keys (maybe I need this more that I thought)

Shaf.

If you are looking at the keyboard to type then clearly not having printed key caps is going to be an issue.

As for your mistake rate, perhaps you just require more time adjusting to the mech compared to a dome based keyboard. Perhaps you are expecting less actuation force than is actually required?

What colour switches did you get? If it's blacks then I would not be surprised at typing errors because they are not great switches for typing.

Learn to touch type, pecking the keys will increase your mistake rate.

Assuming you can already, practice.

I can touch type fine on my old/work keyboards and also on the flico - it's just that I seem to making many more mistakes on the flico.

I have the same keyboard but with blue switches. I have no problems on mine. Maybe because I actually have the letters printed on :p. You can buy the keycaps with the letters on for a few pounds, and they are very easy to replace.

I found the same thing when I switched to mech, but mainly because all of a sudden my many mistaken actuations from fumbly fingers were actually being registered rather than being missed by my old membrane keyboards. I have reds though, so it's hard to tell whether you just knocked the key or whether you pressed it enough to register. Browns shouldn't be as bad for that with the slight resistance though?

I have key markings on my Filco (I touch type but I like the look) and found a few issues in adjusting mostly around bottoming out the keys but now its faster than I used to type and mostly problem free. They key spacing takes a bit of getting used to but more practice and it should be fine, its a great board.

I can't type on any mechanical keyboards.
I've tried multiple different types for 2+ weeks each.
Nothing, the keys are too high, I need keys that are lower profile, not laptop keys but low profile.

While typing on mechanical I even *pinged* off a few of the keys when typing because when moving around the keyboard my finger has hit the side of the keys with enough force to take the key clean off and ping it across the room.

:P

Filco keys can be had from the Keyboard company but they don't have any in stock at the moment.

I have bought keysets from WASD and would recommend them, they do an ISO layout set which is a positive as a lot of replacement sets are ANSI only. You can also design your own if you want to be a bit geeky about it but I just bought a pre printed set for my new CM storm as it has replacement keys (was an import).
