Got a bit of an ongoing issue with my e4300 rig, specs as follows:

e4300 @ 3ghz
GA-965-dS3p
4gb Crucial Ballistix
2x WD320 (forget exact) - RAID0
1x seagate 320gb

I'm getting a lot of file corruptions, especially with large files, for example I have a 2.7gb (setup2.box from Win studetn deal) file on a memory stick where the checksums are fine. It just will not copy to my hard disk. This is the same whether it's the RAID disks or the 3rd drive. Also the same in Win7 RC1 and XP. So it doesn't seem to be the OS or the hard drives.

I have issues installing programs from my DVD drive and I get the odd blue screen in Windows 7 Pro (retail).

I'm leaning towards it being RAM. I don't think it could be much else really could it? Any ideas?

My first guess would be your ram as well, try running a memory checker like Memtest to see if it picks up any errors.

Run memtest and find out, and will the file not copy to any of your hard drives?

Nope, won't copy to any hard drive !

this happen to me.

small files were fine and i was getting the odd blue screen

it turned out be the ram

Sounds exactly the same - small files are fine. Large files seem to corrupt, they appear to copy OK but if you try to use/run them, or run a checksum check on them there are always errors.

Don't think I have any spare RAM I could use. I have 4x 1GB sticks in a the minute so could always try taking a pair out.

Will run a series of memtests, starting with them all in, then 1 pair at a time to see if I can isolate it.

Well - it was a RAM issue.

For some reason I just couldn't get memtest to work, it kept hanging on startup. So found an alternative that picked up memory errors on 2 sticks (oldest set) immediately.

Back in Win7 and everything is hunky dory :D large files now copy fine. Lets hope there are no BSOD.

Edit: If I remember rightly. Don't the Crucial Ballistix have a lifetime warranty?
