Can't you open it, and then save as?

The document might be 'hidden' for whatever reason.

You can show hidden files by pressing windows > type folder options and select > View tab > tick 'show hidden files, folders, drives'

Hi thanks for the help. unforchunatly this didnt work,

the 1 folder in question SHOULD have 6 files in it. now if i right click the folder and view the properties it says....7 files.....and 3 folders!

confused!!!!

Try start menu -> Documents

At the top underlined 'includes' - try each location in there. Could be in public documents or some other place in your documents library.

Go to your documents library i.e. click on the start menu and then click on the 'Documents' option.

From there you should see a window, where at the top it says 'Includes: x locations'. If you click on the underlined 'x locations' you can see where the file may be stored.

You can also try checking here: C:\Users\Public\Documents

Turn on view hidden files, and in the same screen, turn on, view system files.

Probably desktop. Ini and thumbs. Db or something similar

hi, sorry to be asking again but i havnt resolved the matter. my OS is windows 7. were you refering to the options relating to XP? i cant see 'includes x locations'

thanks for your input bledd but i have tried this to no provail.

thanks

i have a small gold padlock on the bottom left hand side of the folder......what does it mean, it is only on a few,

i only noticed it when bluethoothing files over from my Galaxy S2. is this relevent to my problem? would be good to know what it means either way. cheers

start -> type cmd -> right click cmd.exe -> run as administrator

in cmd (black window) type

dir "c:\users\pc spec file" /a /s /b

and hit enter. should tell you after a few seconds exactly where that file is.

i couldnt find the file.....well the system couldnt lol.

ive had to delete the folder and copy the original 6 files from my S2 to the folder......but the files are about a month out of date, so a big inconvienience to update! appreciate all the help though guys, thanks!

so not to drag this post out but.......simply why has this happened and 2) any thoughts on the little padlocks???

the new file i copied over.......has just vanished AGAIN! but by pure luck i have found it, although the comp couldnt find it....hhmmmmm!

anyway. in libaries is were i, and im sure most people, store docs, music, pics and vids. now the file in question is in the the doc folder, well it was!

the file keept moving to the document folder under my computer, C drive, Users, Chris, Doc....and there it was! with that padlock thing again. after messing for a while and trying to find out exactly why it keeps vanishing i finally got an answer. i clicked the option to 'homegroup read/write'. must have clicked 'nobody' at somepoint! the padlocks have gone and everything is as norm.

so why are there 2 ways to access your files, either libaries or through the above method. is there some logical point to this idea i'm missing, would be good to know.
