I was copying/cutting (suppose to be copying, may have clicked cut) 37gb worth of files, music, videos, pictures etc. from my desktop to a portable hdd, and it stopped half way through with an error, i think it was to do with media player being open and renaming recently added files, either way, only 19gb made it to the hdd, and the same 19gb was left on my dektop!

So i downloaded PC INSPECTOR FILE RECOVERY and tried that and it found most of the files, but after saving them back to my computer, none of them will open, does anyone have any advice about how i can get my files back, many thanks.

A system restore is not an option as windows has only recently been loaded and there are not any restore points yet.

stop using the computer and use a different one (borrow one if you have to)

put the hard drive in new computer and use a data recovery tool from there

file scavenger 3 is awesome..

Why a different computer? Why not just use this one and a caddy?

Any freeware?

if its your c drive (i'm assuming it is becuase you said from desktop)

then any hard drive activity reduces the chances of recovering files (because they get overwritten once they're deleted)

here's a freeware alternative (there are loads more)

The old copy of my stuff which was being overwritten on the portable hdd, if i could recover that it would be almost as good.
