File permissions not changing recursively (Win7/NTFS)

Hi folks,

When I put Win 7 on my machine my music drive was already NTFS formatted on a previous XP machine.

I'm now having trouble setting permissions recursively.

Basically I go through the normal process and I either don't get asked if I want to change permissions recursively or when it says it's doing it it doesn't.

Any thoughts? It's the files themselves that never get their permissions changed if I go in at the top level.

Cheers!
Paul.

Yup, it says it's doing it but the files are not affected, even changing permissions on the folder the file resides in has no effect.

I think I'll just zip everything up and unzip somewhere else after a reformat to clear all the permissions.

I've got a folder with similar problems that I just don't seem to be able crack ether. Funny enough the next thing I was going to try was pretty much what your thinking.

I think it's the only way. I'm moving the drive to yet another machine to I reckon now is the time to back everything up on there and reformat it :)
