Hi guys,

After a year of XP I decided to rebuid the PC and slap a fresh copy of windows onto it, unfortunately I did not back up a number of pictures that were of importance to my better half.

My question is simple: Is there ANY way I can recover files from a HDD that has been formatted and had a fresh install of the same (if that matters) Operating System installed onto it?

Thanks a lot.

Its possible, but could be difficult. There is some software that I used when I was in a similar situation called Get Data Back for NTFS. I recovered most of my stuff. The monst important thing is not to use the computer too much cos if the stuff is overwritten its gone. I think you should be able to get most of it back so long as you did a quick format. I dont know that a full format will leave anything behind

you can recover the stuff thats not been written over pretty easily

you need a programme called file scavenger

it will quite easily recover data from the part of the disk that hasnt been written on by the new data. This is entirely random and its possible your old stuff has been overwritten and will require proper tools to remove.
