Evening all,

I currently have a headless home file server setup running Windows 7 which has been working flawlessly for years. However today i came to use sabnzb'd and failed to get a connection nor would remote desktop connect (neither locally or using dyndns address). The server also no longer appears as a samba share.

I have connected a monitor to the system and it is working fine, it has internet access, can connect to the router admin page etc however i still cant connect to it over the network. I have verified the local ip has remained the same which is has yet it has still disapeared. (Cant even ping the local ip).

I appreciate my description is a little vague but does anyone have any suggestions?

My home setup is along these lines if it helps:

Sky SR102 Fibre Router

|
|
24 port gigabit switch
|
File Server

I also have a desktop gaming pc and htpc connected to the switch. All wired connections in CAT5e. Im really puzzled by this!

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Russ

Perhaps an obvious question but have you changed anything since it was last working? (E.g. the new Sky 'Hub'?).

Well guys, really simple fix in the end. For some unknown reason the servers network type had changed from home to public and in the process blocking all incoming connections.

No idea why the network type changed as it did but all sorted and functioning correctly again. :-)

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply.

Had that happen before for 'no reason', well none that was apparent to me.

A real pain to diagnose the first time!
