I've now got 2 PC's and 1 Laptop in my house. I work in IT Support and would like to dedicate some time to learning a little about windows servers.
I can aquire another PC that I'd like to run as a Windows server. I'm not really interested in accessing the server from outside my home, but am interested in using the Active Directory and to create roaming profiles.
I'll be storing lots of media files and backup files on this additional PC, but the most important thing is for me to learn and 'fiddle around'.
I've searched OC and the net and I'm a little confused by the results. I think what I need is a File Server, however I'd like to plug my Printer into the server too. Will I also need a Print Server. Also my NTL Broadband connection will need to be connected to the server. I already have a router and Network cards for my current setup.
Am I over complicating things maybe. Can 2003 be used as I use XP now. Basically Internet, printers and files, then all my other PC's can connect to it for those things, with the addition of Roaming profiles and my 'play around with it' time
I know I can use Windows XP to share files, but as I mention I'd like to create a dedicated server.
Will the trial version of Server 2003 allow the above?
