file sharing maybe server advice

ok,

I have a lot of files to share between two apple computers running wirelesly, I have one computer pc based tower with all my Hard drives on, I want to be able to access these via finder. I know this is a rough guidance but show me your ideas and thought on this idea . .. . .

if you press command + K, you can connect via Samba using the servers IP address

ok, what operating system would you suggest for the server? I havent done any of this before btw!

Have heard good things about FreeNAS

FreeNAS is supposed to be good, but if you want more control over your server. Then a easy to use Linux distribution like Ubuntu would be good. Here are a few guides you should look at if thinking about setting up a home server.

hi, Thanks for the advice hav setup the server and able to connect to it via a xp machine no problems but cant connect to it via my macs. I go to "connect to server" type in \\192.168.0.**\homes and says connection failed. any ideas?

oh ok already sorted !!! smb has to be infront of it

also how do i change the volume name from homes to something else?
