i've been using filehippo for awhile to get all my must-have windows freeware. saves trawling round individual websites looking for latest versions. :)

well now they have an update checker. it's a single .exe and weighs in at only 100k and it scans your machine for all the common software you have and checks for newer versions on it's website. pretty cool if you ask me.

check the main site out just to get an idea of how much stuff they host -it's pretty impressive. :)

Yeah I've been using FileHippo for a while. Certainly a cool site, in that it at least takes some of the demand for bandwidth off the author's site which for the bigger companies such as Microsoft and Java isn't much of a problem but for the authors of really cool little apps I think FH helps them out.

Started using the UDC as well. Wish I could set it to not inform me about beta updates but hey ho for a 100k file I can't really ask for much more.

I'm just thinking that its been years since Cnet's Catchup or whatever it was service went offline. That was cool, scanned my PC and told me what updates there were. How the heck have we gone to 2007 without some kind of update service for Windows PC apps?!
