Files corrupting on 1GB USB key

Is this normal or is there a setting on my computer somewhere that is causing files to corrupt?

MD5 hashes of files from the drive are different

Is there a utility that can verify copied files?

I get this from time to time with my 2.5" portable drive but only when I plug it into my Vista laptop, the drive is fine on my XP laptop. Tried all sorts of things like safe to disconnect etc... but every now and again it just doesn't quite copy the files across.

Have you checked it with 'chkdsk /f'?
