so i got a new problem today which has got me baffled, OS is vista x64

i download anything to anywhere and upon completion it just vanishes, nothing in the bin or anywhere else on my pc.

a google has a fair few threads on this but no solution, anyone here got any ideas?

edit; seems this is only an internet browser problem as grabit is downloading fine.

For IE7, take a look in C:\Users\<Username> - Do you have a downloads folder there?

Found a solution for Firefox on one website that suggests download/install this add-on and then go to Tools > Add-ons > Custom Download Manager > Options, and untick "Scan files after download".

Hope it helps.

i already tried the account folders, mine is the only account.

i'll take a look at that add-on now, not that i want to use firefox but at least its a temp fix until i can find the cause cheers ;)

edit : lol no i wont as i cant d/l anything without it dissapearing :(

ok i added it using firefox and i can download again :D

just need to figure out why IE is doing it. is there any security settings that might be doing it? i read that resetting IE to default may fix it but what does that actually do?

Was getting intrigued by this so did some reading. Two interesting pieces that suggests:

Look in c:\users\username\AppData\VirtualStore and browse within folders there. Or

Look in Internet Options > Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security section near the bottom. Look for "Check for signatures on downloaded programs." Dont know what risks are involved but might be related to unsigned downloads disappearing. I don't know if it only checks executable files, so I guess that you're not even getting pictures or other media files etc...

I dont seem to have any problems with downloads, but I have admin privileges so it lets me download and save to almost anywhere I want.

PS I guess VirtualStore is a hidden system folder so may need to enable view system or hidden files or folders when you look/search.
