ive got £550 maybe 600 to spend on upgrading my system in the next month or so and id like for someone to fill in the blanks for me, i have 2 parts of it decided on and 3 i dont have a clue about

decided;
gigabyte p35c-ds3r motherboard
4 gb(2x2gb) g.skill 8000 ram

not so much decided;
e8400/q6600 i play a lot of games and one of them being supcom i think id be better with a quad but id like some input on it

im not sure about a graqphics card is like to get an 8800 gts but if wont make any difference over a gt(playing on a 15" screen @ 1024x768) i could save me £50-60,or if i could save even more that would be great

and finally a psu i was looking at a corsair hx620 but if a 520 would do then thats another £20 saved but again i dont know if the 520 will be enough because ive looked at a few calculators and the watts they tell me to get vary between 390-512

and hey if i even save enough ill get a decent cooler and maybe double up on the ram and pay the £6 shipping for 64 bit vista

The 520 psu should be fine, a lot of people have mentioned running similar setups with the same psu. The GT would be the better card cost/performance wise on a screen upto about 22" i believe. I'd just go for the cheapest 8800GT, and overclock if you feel you need to, but on a 15" you'll not need to.

Personally i'd go for the quad set up. some games are now using more than 2 core not fully yet, but they are using them (UT3, and therefore any that use the same engine in future).

I've got a E8500 and to be honest i'm not that impressed with it. i still get moment of lag when playing UT3 even when overclocked to 4.1Ghz. I'm going Quad soon!!!

I'd definitely go with an aftermarket cpu cooler. But i wouldn't get any more than 4GB memory just for playing games.
