Hi, I'm having the complete house decorated from top to bottom. I've lifted the carpets in the ground floor rooms and some carpet grippers are missing, loose etc. I was able to remove most of them with no tools whatsoever. They were completely unserviceable.
The base floor is concrete covered in 12 inch square lino tiles about 16th of an inch thick. Quite a number of tiles near the walls and under the door entrance/exit have broken (like a broken biscuit) and most of the pieces are missing, so I couldn't have stuck them down. Where nails have been lifted from the grippers in the past depressions are present. In one walk way a 4 x 4 inch piece of tile is missing
I'd like to attempt to level some of these depressions before I have the carpet fitters in. It's very unlikely that the fitters will be bothered if the floor surface is completely levelled or NOT.
Could someone please advise me what sort of filler/compound I should use bearing in mind that it is only a small job and probably 4 pints of filler would do the job in the three rooms which need attention. I'd like to be able to "easily" sand down any raised areas I might make. Obviously the compound/filler would have to withstand someone walking on it. I don't have a lot of tools and I don't have a plaster paddle or anything like that.
