Ok so the house i moved into had 3 sockets above the fireplace in the front room for the previous owners TV. A Live 3 pin socket, a TV aerial socket and one with a scart cable poking out which was run up , inside the wall, from the floor where I guess he had an old games console.

Anyway, i want to block them off and paint over. I've decommissioned the Live socket and chopped the TV aerial and scart cables out but I'm left with the 3 metal boxes in there which is stopping me from putting in some squares of plasterboard flush with the wall. Is having those metal boxes a requirement or can i just take them out, plasterboard over the holes and paint away?

Take the metal boxes out, turn them around, push them back in and screw back in to place - hey presto, no need to plasterboard, you can just skim over them.
