I have 2x512mb of RAM at the moment, and was thinking of buying another two for my pc. Um, does it need to be the exact same ram due to timings etc if im filling up *** four ram slots? Or do you think i should just bite the bullet and buy 2x1gb? Cheers guys :)

DO NOT FILL THE FOUR MEMORY SLOTS WHEN USING AN ATHLON 64 SKT 939 CPU AS YOUR RAM TIMINGS WILL BE CRAP AND YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES WITH YOUR SYSTEM.

Get 2GB of ram (2 x 1GB sticks) you will get far better performance. Sorry bout the caps above couldnt be bothered changing it :p

i agree, stay clear of filling four slots at al costs !!
ive only ever found 1 board and ram type that it worked ok with. and no please dont ask why they put 4 slots on the board :P

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with runing 4 sticks, I am running 4 sticks @ DDR510 2,2,2,6 2T timings, the difference between 1T and 2T is negligable in real life and bench marks except sisoft sandra.

What you need is a decent processor as its the memory controller that dictates how well your memory performs. I run 1:1 255 and have yet to experience issues in the 8 months I have run 4 slots full.

DFi boards do well with 4 sticks but the inexperienced can kill board, processor and memeory if they get too happy with settings. 2x 1GB is is unoticably faster than my 4x 512MB and thats only because the 2x1 is clocked 30+Mhz higher.

Thanks for the info guys, im gonna just buy two 1 gig sticks im not gonna go and fill up four slots, sounds like a load of unnecissary hassle to be honest. Can anyone recommend some good memory that isnt too expensive? Cheers.
