Filling up your memory slots

I have heard some stories saying that if you fill up all your memory slots (e.g. 4x1gb) then a clock somewhere (can't remember which one) will be slowed down.

Is this true with newer motherboards / Intel motherboards?

Thanks,
Craig.

I know if I fill my slots up, the timmings go from 1T to 2T. But I have a Skt 939 system, not sure if its still the same with newer systems :)

Yeah, I heard the same on AMD systems. I wonder if it's the same for the recent Intel socket 775 boards?

Wasn't this down to the on die memory controller?

Which should mean intel will be alright?

Only the nViidia C2D boards can run at 1T anyway, so if you've an Intel chipset you won't have to worry about it.

Affected my overclock big time :(

I brought another 2Gb of GeIL 800mhz ram to add to my other to which were running at 940mhz 5-5-5-18.

The system would not boot at all with all the sticks in, although 2 sticks at a time worked prefectly. As soon as 4 slots were taken I got no post.

I had to clock way back to 2.4Ghz to be stable.

Running a P5B Deluxe, Latest BIOS. Rig in Sig. Now replaced the ram.

The P5B Deluxe should be fine with 4 sticks.

With both my P965 DS3 and P35 DS3P I've had no issues with 4 sticks compared to two sticks, other then dropping the timings a little. But dropping the timings a little was wholly expected.

It seems that 4 sticks only affects overclocking a bit, I personally don't plan to overclock (I'll probably end up giving it a go on my e6600 though :p)
