Why do I have to stand there and hold the trigger in for the entire time I am filling my car with fuel? It's annoying and pointless. Why is there no catch like there is at millions of other fuel stations in the world? The same click mechanism that stops you squeezing it flicks the catch off. It's much better.

Why/how is there not?

Mondeo doesn't have one, has it's own built in cap/misfuel protection system instead.

But thats still not a solution because you'd get moaned at by the person in the shop if walked off to do productive things like buy things or sit in the car rather than standing beside it when fueling :p

I also find this very annoying - I'm not sure why fuelling your car is treated as such a complex process when a 5 year old could do it.

A few months ago I was filling up and happened to have my phone in my other hand. The attendant disabled the pump about halfway through, then turned on the loudspeaker and said I couldn't use my phone whilst filling up because it's "too distracting".

I do this every time and usually walk around and check the engine oil while it is filling up, only ever been moaned at once.

Because this:

Having experienced this in the US recently it now does feel a bit pointless to stand there for no reason.

What's a million times more annoying for me is that I've had the car mapped for 99, which limits me to Shell and Tesco fuel stations. Shell must have changed their pumps recently so they no longer fill my car properly, the car clicks every few seconds so it takes me about 15 minutes to fill up!

I'd rather hold it than suffer some catch/clip getting stuck and fuel being squirted out of the tank at high pressure all over myself when it's full.

You could have been blown up! ;)

*That is a possibility, but you probably have more chance of spontaneously combusting.

Not as annoying as people not using pay at pump at the designated pumps (why let people use the kiosk at those any way? :().

Around here, everywhere that has pay at pump options has it on every pump, not just a few. Pay at pump is a nice idea but doesn't work for those who use fuel cards, or who require a VAT receipt for their fuel.

The only solution that I feel would be workable for this is the car manufacturers to put motorcycle sizes tanks on cars, say 20 ltrs, so you'd fill it up so quickly you wouldn't feel like you've wasted your time.

All the pay at pumps at Shell stations I've used issue a VAT receipt - not sure about fuel cards as i dont use one but they also had the option of loyalty points cards.

I'd like do more than 100 miles between fill ups though.
