What other films/series are like the andromeda strain?

When a satellite crashes near the remote Utah town of Piedmont, it becomes apparent that it may be carrying a deadly virus. All but two of the town's inhabitants, a baby and a Sterno drinker, are dead. Working in a secret government laboratory deep underground, Dr. Jeremy Stone leads a team of scientists who try to identify the virus and develop a means of stopping its spread. Several others, including the military and other senior government officials, have their own agendas however leading to the spread of misinformation about the origin of the virus

If you haven't seen it, well worth a watch.

It was an ok film, but it suffered from "see this panel here, its the self destruct and only that guys palm print will deactivate it. I know you're thinking why is he telling me this when we've only been here 2 minutes, but, you know, just in case" syndrome.

The original film was very good for it's time. it has dated a bit but it was true to the Michael Crichton book.
Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman is a similar film IIRC

Survivors - Great series from the 70's. Creation of the great Terry Nation, more famous for creating the Daleks. It's about to be remade, and out in the Autumn.

It's a great series, plenty of awesome episodes, like Law and Order, and Mad Dog. You'll also see plenty of famous faces, Peter Duncan, Brian Blessed, June Brown, Denis Lill.

Useless Survivors fact, Lucy Fleming who played Jenny (I find her strangley attractive, particularly in the third series) has control of Ian Flemings estate of James Bond fame.

There is of cause also Jericho and Jeremiah, both US series.

Andromeda Strain is ace. I always lump these old movies together even though the content is a little different but I reckon films like 'West World' and 'Capricorn 1' are up there with this. 70's sci-fi classics!

I don't mind that, as that is exactly how a self destruction system would be set up. Yes it's predictable. But that's how it would work IRL.

It is the remake one I've watched. Didn't know it was a remake.

Can anyone remember what the alien invasion program was called. must have been around 98/99ish. They came through a portal type thing, poisoned the water and fed on serotonin I think. In the end we nuked the entire plant just to stop them growing.

Not quite the same, the virus wipes out all the adults, leaving adolescents etc, but its a great series, plus it has JMS :D
