Hi all

I'm after a coffee machine. I currently use a french press and grind my beans manually, but am a bit tired of the coffee going cold before I've finished it all.

Filter machines appeal because all I ever drink is cups of coffee with milk, not espressos. I drink it slowly over a long time, so aeropress etc. doesn't fit the bill and I want a smooth coffee that will stay hot.

I don't want pods or lattes etc., just a decent drip coffee that I can prepare by pressing a button and letting it bubble away. The pod machines do not appeal to me as I like grinding my own, experimenting with different beans, playing with strength and grind etc.

Looking around I'm not sure what's good on the market in the way of filter coffee machines. None seem to have built-in milk warmers / frothers anymore?

Any recommendations are gratefully received from those special few that haven't bought an espresso / pod machine!

Thanks for that. Good call, though a key piece of info I missed off my original post is that we often have people over to stay, so batch quantity is an important consideration.

Coffee on a hot plate stews over time so better to get one that drips into a thermos type flask. Got some cheapish ones from the rainforest that keep coffee at work warm for about 6 hours without stewing like our old ones used to.

I often take a thermos of coffee from my french press into work, it's still hot lunch time but hasn't gone bitter like a pot on a filter coffee machine.

I have a couple of filter coffee machines, they arent that great for slow consumption, as mentioned by HazardO, they can get very bitter as you leave them on the hotplate.

Technivorm Moccamaster KBT-741

Thermos container and it'll keep it hot enough for a few minutes. Just have to remember to preheat the machine and the thermos. Basically run a half tank of water through it to preheat it all. Best to drink it within about 30 minutes, ditch it and make another pot after that. I'd also recommend a swissgold filter for it.
