i had a new vr 55-200 lens deliverd to my brothers house for my nikon d60 and as my brother also has a nikon camera he decided to give it ago.he put a lens fillter on and now i cannot get it off. it dosent look cross threaded but it wont budge.any tips for removal greatfully received.

put the lens filter face down onto something rubbery/grippy, push down gently and turn it to unscrew, try using your hand first. What often happens is the filter distorts if you try to grip its edges, and therefore sometimes can't turn. :)

similar to one of the above, place a piece of tissue / kitchen towel on the palm of one hand ,press the filter onto your palm and turn

many thanks danza and JBUK i put a peice of kitchen towel on my rubber mouse mat and few twists later i have the filter in my hand and the lens on the camera....

Put a few decent elastic bands in your camera bag, I have.
That's after my cirular polariser decided to weld itself to my lens at the motorshow in london.
Once I got home and did a quick google, I wrapped a band around the filter and tried, it worked great.

Filter Wrench is your friend - hardly any more expensive than elastic bands and doesn't perish like rubber so it doesn't fall to bits when you really need it for the first time in 5 years!

I would say - dont use filters on your lenses then you wont get this issue, but that would be silly not using filters.

Good tips, will take some bands with me from now on.
