Filter types A/P

Ok stupid question.. :confused:

Whats the difference between a A Type filter and a P type filter.

I was just looking at the cheap holders on a auction site and im stumped already.. Just wanted some ND filters for a trip to spain.

I think it's the size. They each take different holders.

Yep. A type holders will only work on lenses with a filter thread up to 62mm, P type can be used on up to 82mm. If you use wide angle lenses you're better off with P types, they're less likely to vignette.

Looks like im going for the p ones then... Does anyone know if they will work on a sigma 10-20 without showing up? if it does the i wont bother with the 77mm adapter..

From what I've read you'll get vignetting with a 10-20 even using a slimline P holder. You need to go to the Z Pro size to properly avoid vignetting.

Using a knock-off Cokin P type holder I can barely go past 16mm on my 10-20. Basically I would stick to screw-on filters unless you have special requirements.
