Filters/Adaptors For compact SLR Style Cameras

I have a Kodak DX6490, and I'm pondering whether it's worth going to the bay of E and buying a filter adaptor to screw onto my camera.

I can see there should be obvious advantages to having an adaptor, and the filters this will susequently allow me to use, but does anyone here have experience with them? Are they any cop?

I had a fz20 with an adaptor ring
helped protect the lens array
and I used UV and polarising filters
can be useful
