my wallet has now got over the shock of buying the camera, so it's time to get a few filters that i need.

On my s5600 i only had a circular polariser (which is off course, 55mm vs the 52mm i need now!).

anyhoo. I want a CPF, IR filter, and then a UV/Skylight filter.

Is there a difference between the UV and Skylight filters - or are they just different names for the same thing?

Been looking around, and I want a R72 IR filter. But with the other filters i'm not so sure. The CPF i had on the s5600 was made by a camera retailer that begins with J and did the job well enough. How much of a difference exists between the brands of these filters, i know Hoya to be a good one - what about other brands i keep seeing like Kood ?

any help and advice greatly appreicated. thanks :)

Personally, I would say that for the prices you find them on the 'bay, Hoya are you best bet for all three (yes, UV and skylight are the same).

The 'normal' Hoya range (as opposed to the Pro series) should be fine. As far as I'm aware there's very little difference optically between them, the Pro series are just thinner.

okie kokie. they didn't seem all that expensive and the other (cheaper) ones weren't much cheaper really.

They are almost the same but the skylight has a VERY slight pink colour to it which will warm your photos a little, to be honest with digital it can be added in PP so wouldn't bother with it, just get an UV.

Most importantly make sure you get a multi coated filter! They minimise the chances of flare.

Hoya are fine, if you have deeper pockets go for B+W or Heliopan.

Not had any experience with IR photography so i'll leave that to someone else :)
