It depends on what type of filters you're looking for. For screw in ones (polarisers, UV etc) then Hoya Pro or B+W are the ones to go for, not cheap but very good. Cokin are better for graduated filters because you can move them in the holder to line up the graduated bit correctly - screw in grads are available but you can't move the boundary relative to the frame.

I have a set of Cokin, but with digital I'd question the requirement.
Strikes me that most of the changes that can be done with a filter can now be completed much more easily with digital editing. About the only exception that I can think of to that are polarising filters.
Still, could be talking out of my...

If you're interested in a set of Cokins, let me know.

All the colour correcting type filters are pretty much redundant as you say. Polariser & ND effects can't be done in photoshop though.

Sorry forgot to mention hat the filters im looking at are polorising and uv filters..
Btw what is a skylight filter for ?

A skylight filter is fairly similar to a UV one in that it removes haze and provides a very slight warming effect. Both are hard to spot though, normally skylights are used for the same reason as UV filters - for lens protection.

If you're after a UV & a Polariser I would go with Hoya filters, Pro-MMC for the UV and normal for the Polariser. You can get Pro-MMC Polarisers but they're a lot of cash.

Also you can't really do IR after shooting.
From what I've seen hoya are good for that. R72 I think the model is?
