Lastnight i got Sky TV fitted and a phone socket which was unused is now plugged into my Sky box. now i bought a filter for this line in advance (cheap one from tescos) but ever since the box is connected my BT broadband has been going down allot.
(18 disconnects lastnigth while i was in bed).

Would swapping the filter help here or is it the Sky HD box sucking too much power from the phone lines?

Anyone got any advice?

I'd like to find this out too, i have a splitter + filter between the adsl and sky box and my line drops out all the time.

Are some filters better than others?

Yes, some filters are much better then others, I don't think I can link you due to fact the sites might be classed as competitors

but hunt around in google

Yes, get the best filter you can, or even fitting 2 filters in series is recommended for sky boxes, they're a bloody menace, you may even be affecting any neighbours on adsl. If that doesn't work call sky and get a new box.

How so ? Last I knew a DACS'd line didn't support ADSL (rules out you and the neighbour having common copper between you and the exchange).

Also it's worth mentioning that while sky say you need to keep the box plugged in you don't unless you want to use the interactive games etc. PPV will work fine without it.

Swapped my cheapo filters fro some £10 a piece ones and it seems to have sorted the problem.

Now i just need to get BT to let me leave so i can go to Sky for my broadband....

Some sky boxes have been known to take out an entire street, the faulty ones emit tons of RFI.

If they did that all hell would have broken loose and sky would have switched supply to yet another manuf. The CE stamp would be witdrawn for the exisitng product etc. The only mention of any RF issues with Sky box's has been from a small number of HAM radio users. Have you got a reference to this causing problems with an individual ADSL connection let alone a street as i'm interested?

Meh, just unplug the sky box and only plug it in when you need it, ours hasn't been plugged in for over a year now.

^ This man speaks the truth haven't plugged mine in since day 1 5 years ago :)

You cant if you have + multiroom or HD its a contract requirement that its plugged in.
And aparently from what I've read on Avforums they check.

Anyway 12hrs online and no drops and only 2 bad packets...the filters appear to have fixed it..

So you guys pay for a sky subscription, but don't plug it in? Or am i missing something here =/

/edit ooohhhh you mean just the phone line, i see. We had a call couple weeks back because our box wasn't connected to the phone :(

techniclly if you are still in your 12 months you are breaking the rules of the contract and sky can suspend your service...
