Right, I'm closing in on buying an AV receiver now. This looks the best of the best for my price range: DENON AVR2105 HOME CINEMA RECEIVER (BLACK) or possibly the Cambridge Audio AZUR 540R!

Right, So I've also got my X-Fi Xtreme Music.

Here's my plan:

1) For MOVIES & GAMING (via PC) :

Analogue 7.1 output from Sound Card to AV receiver via these!

2) For MUSIC:

I'll use the digital output, and select OPTICAL on my AV receiver. Or is this case unnecessary!

3) For DVDs:
Simple Optical connection between DVD player and Receiver.

I may or may not use my current Kenwood amp to drive the front speakers.

Final thoughts/suggestions?

Use coax from your soundcard if you have it. Despite the extra noise (which the error handling should take in its stride) it ought to be better than the optoelectronics in the breakout box.

Other than that, seems fine, although if you are using digital for PC--> amp why you feel you need the 7.1 cabling as well, I dont know...

Because the cretins at Creative made it so the digital output only carries a 2.1 (might even be 2.0) signal unless you're watching DVDs.
