Ok, this is a final posting before buying as I could spend another week deciding and googling components.

What do you think?

My only reservation was between the Cosmos S (PSU on the deck) vs. a CM Stacker 832 (having the PSU at the top of the box)? Have gone for the Cosnos S

What are you going to use it for ?
If you're not going to OC heavily, you can get cheaper mobo.
Also pass on DDR3.
Get minimum 4gb of ram if you want to use vista.

And you can also swap quad with c2d if you're not much into video editing.
Also you can some some cash on PSU, 620-700 will do fine.

Hi

Going to use it for gaming and video and music encoding.

Went for a higher PSU in case I wanted to add a 2nd GFX card at a later point.

I want to keep DDR3 as otherwise I'll have to upgrade the mobo next time I want to move from DDR2 to 3. I'll keep to 2 gb of DDR3 and then add more as prices drop .

I know that I could do what I need to do with a lower spec PC but I only tend to do builds every few years and don't upgrade regularly.

Cheers
S

no point getting ddr3 as your next upgrade is most likely going to need a new mb anyway as lga775 is nearign the end of its life and maybe ddr2 too. you will be better off with ddr2 for now and gettign ddr3 when its mainstream, also larger sticks may be availible then too or they maybe cheaper

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler pre-applied thermal compound-

We ship our coolers with our latest ARCTIC MX-2 thermal compound pre-applied. MX-2 is a high thermal conductivity and low thermal resistance compound that optimizes thermal dissipation. It is ideally suited for use in CPU and GPU cooling where thermal conductivity is a major factor.

So no need to change.
